Rehearsals are 6:30 – 8:30 pm on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays of each month (except when major holidays fall on those days).
Directions to our rehearsal location are below.
Our rehearsals are filled with a deep and joyful sharing of our voices and our souls. The lyrics by a well-loved and respected member/songwriter in the Santa Barbara Threshold Choir, Marilyn Power Scott, express this well –
Gather us together, Spirit of Harmony.
Arise in us, Loving-kindness.
Blend our voices in beauty and peace,
That they may nourish and comfort.
At our rehearsals and bedside visits, we sing without any instrumental accompaniment. We sing from a list of favorite songs we know give the comfort and compassion we seek. This includes, of course, songs in the national Threshold Choir’s ever growing collection (currently numbering 450). This collection was written by Threshold members, predominantly from California, who have been profoundly moved by their individual experiences caring for or being with people who were seriously ill or dying, often in their own family. This unique treasury of songs is known to send “shivers down the spine” and are a joy to sing in our rehearsal circles as well as at a bedside. Additionally, we include lullabies and some traditional hymns. Our unique repertoire is appropriate for and can be enjoyed by all faith traditions.
Our singing circle welcomes all women who share our mission of compassion and comfort and who can carry a tune. After attending a minimum of 3 rehearsals as a guest, those wishing to become Members will need to pick up a Songbook for a donation of $15, if that is financially possible. There is no need to become a Member to attend rehearsals, though of course we hope you do. You must be a Member in order to sing at the bedside.
For those desiring to sing at bedsides, we have a check sheet of steps to go through, which includes a commitment to learning (and eventually memorizing) the repertoire and attending rehearsals as regularly as possible. There are additional requirements for those who go on to become “anchors” — women who lead and guide the singers at the visits. All these requirements and guidelines will be explained in rehearsals, handouts and focused trainings.
The Bellingham Threshold Singers is a diverse group of local women who, through our singing circle, desire to experience the comfort and deep inner peace (and spiritual wholeness for some as well) that comes from sharing our voices and our presence with
