Bellingham Threshold Singers has had a great year!
Thanks to the hard work of our members, who contacted people who have experienced our singing and helped them fill out the forms, we won the Mayor’s Arts Award in April. We used our 3 minutes of fame to sing a song to the audience that had gathered at the awards ceremony—demonstrating rather than telling about what we do. What an honor!
In May, we had an Art Show Fundraiser hosted by Trish Harding in her downtown studio. Many artists displayed their work on the theme of Thresholds, and Trish donated a spectacular painting for auction. Our wine wall was a great hit, and several people went home with very nice bottles of wine. Excellent music was provided by the Southside Jazz Trio, and we sang a few songs too. All in all, an enjoyable time and successful fundraiser.
Two of our singers attended the All-Choir Gathering in Chicago in July, where 177 folks from chapters all over the US and beyond met to share songs, stories and wisdom. They learned that Threshold Choir International is growing by leaps and bounds, with many new chapters beginning around the globe. Our singers returned invigorated by all they had learned.
We spent the summer preparing for the Northwest Regional Threshold Choir Gathering, which our chapter hosted. We held it at a retreat center just outside Leavenworth in October. We had 75 attendees, despite the storm that hit the area that weekend. Presenters from as far away as California and Colorado joined those from our own and nearby choirs to offer a range of workshops, including vocal technique, death salon, songwriting, and bedside challenges.
And while we were doing all that, we sang at bedsides 536 times, or 49 times per month, in the first 11 months of this year. We trained and welcomed aboard two new Anchors (our lead singers), while two others stepped down to take a break from their anchoring responsibilities. Our membership stands at 41, twenty-six of whom are trained to sing at the bedside.
We’ve been temporarily displaced from Jerns, our usual rehearsal space, due to remodeling, and we’ve found a temporary home at the Garden Street Methodist Church. As always, we welcome guests at every rehearsal, the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of every month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. No rehearsal on December 27, however, because of the holidays. Please check to see where rehearsals will be until we get back to Jerns (call us at 360-927-4384).
As we always do at this time of year, we remind you that we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that relies on the generosity of those who believe in our service. Tax deductible donations can be made through our website (BellinghamThresholdSingers.org) or by sending a check to BTS, PO Box 5303, Bellingham, WA 98227. We appreciate every penny.
We wish everyone a happy holiday season!
